We like the letter R. For starters is the initial of both our names, it has an alliterative dimension (specially in Spanish where we roll our Rs) that gives any R word a certain materiality, and maybe precisely because of this, the prefix RE reverberates with us… meaning again and again… an idea engrained in science, culture, and obviously design.
“Re-search means look again, don't it? Means they're looking for something they found once and it got away somehow, and now they got to re-search for it?...” from Kurt Vonegut’s ‘Cat’s Cradle’.
REENACTMENT_ some times essential process for understanding or critiquing an event. Our re-enactments are abridged, we purposefully leave gaps and generate inaccuracies intended as interludes between the reference and our memory. Reenactment means redesign.
REPRODUCTION _ as before but in relation to an object or material being. Everything we know about design is tradition and, as such, reproduction without redesign is purely nostalgic, “…a fake”.
RECALL _ a sudden flashback that links a memory with a particular actuality. That link or connection is a design proposal. Its implementation is re-design.
REENCOUNTER _ Found objects as wormholes.RISK _ risk prone… value failure…
RED _ “Is not a colour”REALITY _ “Reality may be too complex for oral transmission; legend recreates it in a manner which is only accidentally false and which allows it to go about the world, from mouth to mouth.” Jorge Luis Borges delivered via Alpha60 in Jean Luc Goddard’s ‘Alphaville’.
REACH _ can never be achieved… there’s no promised land…
ROADSIDE PICNIC _ no more than a random event… no meanings attached (a tribute to Arkady & Boris Strugatsky’s ‘Roadside Picnic’)
RESIDENT _ residing is different from belonging… ‘Self-digitalisation’ as reenactment of the conventions of the digital world.
REMAKE _ means REDESIGN. Remaking the iconic final scene from Sergio Leone’s “The God, the Bad and the Ugly” in Berlin as a public performance act. Substituting the American plain for the vast Alexanderplatz. No horses were used in this remake.
